I think most people will agree that in order to increase your size, strength, and power, supplementing with creatine is vital in achieving those goals, but that’s where the consensus ends and the eternal creatine debate begins. There are many variations of Creatine on the market, with even more proprietary blends to choose from so one is almost compelled to ask:
“Are all creatine supplements the same or are there certain types of creatines that are better than others?”
This has been one of the most common, yet controversial questions people asked and responded to in the history of bodybuilding supplementation, and for good reason. There are about 10-12 different (and counting) variations of creatine on the market to date, and all of the backers of these variations claim them to be the newest and the best, but when you read up on testimonials from people who have tried them, then the reviews tend to be mixed at best.
I’ve been reviewing bodybuilding supplements now for about 4 years and although I do not claim to absolutely know for sure what is the best creatine supplement for everyone, I have begun to notice certain types of creatine that have shown more positive results than others.
There are 4 creatine forms that I would consider the best right now:
I would also point out that many supplement companies are now “concentrating” there creatine supplements by adding additional nutrients that aid in increasing the absorption of the creatine into the muscles, a major factor I have worked into determining the top supplements on the market. I have also considered the dose amount, quality of the product, X-factor, and overall value of the product in order to come up with my Top 10 list.
Although creatine can be found in many types of supplements, this list is for Creatine only supplements that do not contain stimulants or other major nutrients like BCAA’s or Glutamine. The ingredients that are included are nutrients that assist with the absorption level of the creatine, antioxidants, vitamins, and elements of that nature.
I really hope that my list has helped you decide on the best creatine supplement for your individual needs. There should be something here for everyone including the best raw creatine supplements without any other ingredients in them.
Please feel free to leave your own reviews, questions, and/or comments below in the comment section.
*This list will often change due to new Creatine supplements hitting the market so check back often for revisions and updates.
**All supplements are gauged based on 5 categories from 0-10
with 0 being the lowest rating, and 10 being the highest rating**
10/10 – Dose Amount: 5820mg of total nutrients with 4200mg of Creatine: Creapure® (Creatine Monohydrate), Creatine MagnaPower, Creatine, AAB 2:1. 4200mg is not the coveted 5g, but because it is a blend it has higher absorption properties than standard Creatine Monohydrate.
10/10 – Quality: Creavar contains Creapure® and Creatine MagnaPower®, two of the highest quality Creatines available. Plus with the inclusion of other notable ingredients, I would consider this a very high quality product.
10/10 – Effectiveness: This is a highly effective Creatine supplement because of the types of Creatine used combined with Betaine HCl, Red Beet Exract, and Cinnulin. There is a lot going on in this product that has shown some scientific studies supporting the synergistic properties of these key nutrients.
10/10 – X-Factor: Astravar 2.0 is the major X-Factor of this supplement along with 2 other key factors that will be mentioned in the next section. Astravar 2.0 is an interesting combination of ((Beet Root Extract (Beta Vulgaris)(Root)(High Nitrates), AstraGin™ (Panax Notoginseng Root Ext, Astragalus Root Ext.)), Rhodiola Rosea (Root) Extract, BioPerine® Proprietary (Piper Nigrum) Extract. Red Beet Extract (NO3 Nitrates) has been shown to improve endurance and nutrient uptake by converting to NO2 which increases oxygen levels in the blood, this creating a nice pump.
10/10 – Overall Value: 55 servings at $0.46 per serving is VERY cheap considering the impressive ingredient profile. That’s almost half of some of the other products that you will find here but with just as much ass-kicking muscle juice. Talk about the best bang for your buck, this product is stellar. The other great aspect being that the powder is unflavored, making it versatile and easy to mix with anything. This is a great Creatine Supplement that is tough in the weight room but soft on the wallet. I simply couldn’t find anything wrong with it which is why it is now the #1 creatine supplement on the market.

10/10 – Dose Amount: COR-Performance Creatine contains a perfect 5g of Creapure® (Creatine Monohydrate). It doesn’t get much better than that.
10/10 – Quality: Cellucor is one of my favorite supplement companies because to me their name spells quality and COR-Performance is a perfect example of this. Creapure® a brand of Creatine that actually refers to a manufacturing method of Creatine that ensures the highest quality of Creatine.
9.5/10 – Effectiveness: By including Creasorb™ into this product, the folks at Cellucor have addressed the PH balancing issues of standard monohydrate making it more stable when digested thus increasing the absorption of the 5g of Creatine it contains.
9.5/10 – X-Factor: As I mentioned before the PH balancing properties of this product is very clever and unique to this Creatine formula and to add to this with the inclusion of Sodium, Potassium, Phosphorus, and Calcium Silicate, you also get some electrolytes as well. There is another ingredient listed as Cinnamon Bark Extract which has shown to assist in improved glucose metabolism. The other X-factor is the tasteless powder that can be mixed with anything including protein powders, pre workout supplements, or BCAA supplements.
10/10 – Overall Value: 50 servings at $0.80 per serving is a great value for a high quality Cellucor product. Everything from the dose amount to the PH properties to the price per serving has equaled out to a near perfect score. This is a great Creatine Supplement that is about as perfect as you can get. Get this supplement, it is more than worth it.
Buy Cellucor: COR-Performance Creatine (50 Servings)
10/10 – Dose Amount: There is 2200mg of nutrients per serving with 1750mg being Creatine HCl and 450 Fenugreek Extract. Yes, you read right, 1750mg of Creatine HCl per serving. That’s 1000mg more per serving than Con-Crete. Can you say “Hell Ya!”
10/10 – Quality: MuscleTech is a top-notch supplement manufacturer that uses high quality ingredients.
9.5/10 – Effectiveness: The massive amount of what I consider to be a real concentrated Creatine, combined with Fenugreek Extract increases Creatine uptake, thus greatly improving its effectiveness.
9/10 – X-Factor: This is a simple supplement that only contains 2 major ingredients, but these two ingredients are very powerful when combined together. Plus, if you look at the Other Ingredients you will find Sodium Bicarbonate and Calcium Carbonate which serves as a PH buffer and helps further improve Creatine Absorption.
10/10 – Overall Value: 80 servings at $0.39 per serving is one of the most affordable Creatine HCl products like this available. There is only 1 flavor to this powder, Lemon Lime that mixes clear and tastes like a lemon drop. Creatine HCl is my favorite form of Creatine because there is no loading needed, little to no side-effects, and highly effective in increasing size and strength. If you are a fan of Con-Crete than you will absolutely love Creacore because it is superior in every way and about half the price.
Buy MuscleTech: Creacore (80 Servings)
9/10 – Dose Amount: BSN Nitrix 2.0 has a total of 3.6g of nutrients per serving and although it isn’t as much as some others, it does contain a very good blend on ingredients including 3 types of Creatines: Creatine Monohydrate, Creatine HCI (Con-Cret®), Creatine Anhydrous, plus L-Citrulline, Hawthorne Extract, and a few other things that can justify this amount as being more than satisfactory.
10/10 – Quality: BSN is one of the best in the business so quality is never a problem.
10/10 – Effectiveness: Nitrix 2.0 is loaded with some of the best ingredients currently available. What makes this product very effective is the nitric oxide precursor L-Citruline which has all but replaced L-Arginine as the most effective ingredient in delivering great muscle pumps. So you not only feel it, but you know that your muscles are being force feed these nutrients making it one of the most effective creatine products on the market.
10/10 – X-Factor: 3 Creatines including my favorite Creatine HCl is a great blend to have. There are some other useful ingredients in here such as Niacin, Bioperine®, and Capsimax* that have antioxidant and theromogenic properties. The other X-Factor is the pill form that Nitrix 2.0 comes in. This makes taking your Creatine convenient and a lot easier and it nullifies any issues with taste or mixing it.
9/10 – Overall Value: 60 servings (180 tablets) at about $1.00 per serving is OK, but if you read the labeling, they recommend taking a total of 6 tablets per day so a full serving will cost you $2.00 per day. Pretty expensive compared to the others here. Nitrix 2.0 is more than just a Creatine supplement, it can also help you lose weight, has cardiovascular benefits, and antioxidant properties so I think it is a great supplement but I just don’t like having to pay so much for it.
Buy BSN: Nitrix 2.0 (60 Servings)
10/10 – Dose Amount: MusclePharm Creatine contains an exact dose of 5g of 5 Creatines.
10/10 – Quality: Very good, perhaps the best straight up Creatine blend on the market.
9.5/10 – Effectiveness: Very effective due to the blended Creatines being delivered in slightly different ways, thus helping hard gainers increase absorption while still satisfying the average joe.
8.5/10 – X-Factor: MusclePharm Creatine contains Cinnulin PF®, an ingredient that has shown some positive results in increasing nutrient absorption.
10/10 – Overall Value: 300 grams at 60 servings per container yield $0.33 per serving making this a very good deal for a blend of this caliber. The supplement also comes in an unflavored powder form so you can mix it with anything such as a protein powder, but be aware if you mix it in a clear liquid there will be some settling at the bottom. This is my favorite straight up Creatine blend because it’s cheap, high-quality, and delivers on exactly what it promises.
Buy MusclePharm: Creatine (300 Grams)
10/10 – Dose Amount: 10.4g of nutrients per serving 5g of it is Creatine in the form of 2500mg of Magnesium Creatine Chelate and 2500mg of Dicreatine Malate. This is the standard amount of Creatine that most bodybuilders look for.
9.5/10 – Quality: Quality is good for an older product. Green MAGnitude has a good blend of ingredients that mixes well and tastes good too.
9.5/10 – Effectiveness: Both forms of Creatine have an additional element bonded to the Creatine molecule that are intended to increase the absorption levels, plus with the combination of a few other ingredients, Green MAGnitiude is very effective when taken over a period of several weeks.
9/10 – X-Factor: There is a good amount of Betaine Anhydrous (2500mg) per serving that helps with fat loss and building muscle by increasing cell production so it is the perfect ingredient to partner with this Creatine Blend.
9.5/10 – Overall Value: 80 servings at $0.50 per serving is a bargain for this Creatine blend. It comes in 2 flavors and can be taken any time during the day, but may be most beneficial taken pre and/or post workout alongside a good BCAA recovery supplement.
Buy Controlled Labs: Green MAGnitude (80 Servings)
9.5/10 – Dose Amount: Creature Powder contains 5 total grams with 2504mg of their 4 Creatine Blend. Directions state to consume 2 scoops per day which would yield the 5g of Creatine you’re looking for.
10/10 – Quality: Creature Powder is a great blend of 4 Creatines: Creapure® Brand Creatine Monohydrate, Creatine Magna-Power® Brand of Creatine Magnesium Chelate, Creatine Alpha-Ketoglutarate, Creatine Anhydrous.
9.5/10 – Effectiveness: There is also 20mg of calcium, Vanadium Citrate, and some other ingredients like Maltodextrin that do make a very potent Creatine cocktail that is highly absorbable and very effective.
8.5/10 – X-Factor: By including Vandium Citrate and Maltodextrin, the Creatine has some increased absorption properties that may increase the effectiveness of the product.
9.5/10 – Overall Value: 300 grams at 60 scoops per container yield $0.50 per scoop and $1.00 per total serving making this product average to slightly below average in cost, however given the quality of the Creatine found here, it makes for a good product. One other mention is that Creature Powder does come in some pretty good flavor choices that mix well with some grain found in the mix. This may not be the best creatine supplement, but it is very good.
Buy Beast Sports Nutrition: Creature Powder (300 Grams)
9.5/10 – Dose Amount: Optimum Micronized Creatine Powder contains 5g of Creatine Monohydrate. Could not award a 10 because there are no other ingredients.
10/10 – Quality: Optimum is cheaper than some of the other iconic supplement companies, but ive always found their products to be very good and oftentimes better than others at a more affordable price.
9/10 – Effectiveness: Micronized Creatine Monohydrate is always a safe bet and is effective when taken over time.
8/10 – X-Factor: This is about a simple a product as you’re going to get so the X-Factor here is that it is tasteless, odorless, and devoid of any other “filler” ingredients.
10/10 – Overall Value: 1200 Grams = 240 servings at $0.12 per serving is going to be the best deal you’re going to find for a Micronized Creatine powder of this quality. Of course it will not stack well against the others supplements in this list due to the lack of ingredients, but the main purpose here is to provide people who are just looking for a good Creatine Monohydrate powder with one that I feel is high quality and a real bargain.
Buy Optimum: Micronized Creatine Powder (1200 Grams)
8.5/10 – Dose Amount: In Build-HD there is a total of 4500mg of nutrients per serving with 3000mg of it being Creatine Monohydrate. The label indicates that this product is a concentrated creatine, however it may be misleading because the Creatine itself is not concentrated because it is just Creatine Monohydrate and at 3g it’s low in my book.
9.5/10 – Quality: BPI Sports is a top-tier supplement company that does produce high-quality products, but with no indicators highlighting this quality, it would be difficult to rate this any higher than a 9.
9/10 – Effectiveness: It’s hard to argue against the effectiveness of Creatine Monohydrate because most independent studies and scientific research currently available are based on CM but, because this product does incorporate CoQ10 then it may help to increase cellular activity, bioavailability, and anti-oxidant properties thus increasing the effectiveness.
9.5/10 – X-Factor: There are two X-Factors in this product. The first is the additional ingredients that depending on the amount of each may help with mental focus (Acetyl-L-Carnitine, Glycerophosphatidylcholine, Phosphatidylcholine) however there is not enough research to definitively support it. The next X-Factor is the great flavors that this powder form comes in. Build-HD is refreshing to drink any time of day and enough variety to satisfy most pallets.
9/10 – Overall Value: 30 servings at about $1.00 per serving is higher than most creatine products like this, but because it does contain other nutrients and is enjoyable to drink it may be worth it. However if you are on a budget than I would recommend you go for one of the other products that yield more servings per container.
Buy BPI Sports: BUILD-HD (30 Servings)
8.5/10 – Dose Amount: There is 750mg of Creatine HCl per serving and according to the labeling, it is recommended to take 1 scoop per 100 pounds of bodyweight. Since most grown men who lift weights weigh between 170lbs.-250lbs you could be taking up to 3 scoops per day.
10/10 – Quality: Con-Cret is made up of essential Creatine HCl and is considered very high quality.
9/10 – Effectiveness: I am a huge fan of Creatine HCl and I feel it’s the most effective form of Creatine available, however since there is no other ingredients aside from Maltodextrin it gets a 9.
8.5/10 – X-Factor: The X-Factor here is the Maltodextrin that helps with controlling insulin and the 5 flavor choices it comes in.
8/10 – Overall Value: 48 scoops at $0.60 per scoop may seem good, but because according to the label 1 scoop = 100lbs. of weight and if you weigh 250lbs. you are really spending close to $1.80 per serving which is expensive for such a simple supplement. Although Con-Cret is popular, I wanted people to see this supplement stacked up against the others so they can really see the breakdown here and look past the hype.
Buy ProMera Sports: Con-Cret (48 Scoops)
